A resettable fuse, also known as a PPTC (polymer positive temperature coefficient) device, protects electronic circuits from overcurrent by dramatically increasing its electrical resistance when it heats up, thereby reducing the current flow. Unlike traditional fuses that permanently break, a resettable fuse automatically returns to its low-resistance state and resumes normal operation once the fault condition is cleared and the device cools down. This self-resetting feature makes them cost-effective and ideal for applications where manual replacement of fuses is inconvenient.

PPTC Applications:

  • Consumer Electronics: Protecting charging ports, battery packs, headphones, and mobile/wearable devices from overcurrents.
  • Automotive: Safeguarding motors, actuators, security systems, and various electronic modules (like ECUs).
  • Industrial & Communication: Securing power lines, I/O ports, telecommunication equipment, and security systems.
  • Computer Peripherals: Protecting USB ports, internal data lines, and other interfaces.
